Toyota will use the Melbourne Motor Show to today launch their new rally weapon to the media and public, a special occasion for the marquee as it represents not only the official release of the new shape Toyota Corolla but also the first of such vehicles built to Super 2000 regulations.
While today’s version of the car is purely for display purposes, reportedly without either an engine or transmission fitted, it will be identical to the vehicles both Evans and Bates will campaign during the 2007 season.
With Toyota and their rival manufacturer Ford both hastily completing their respective Super 2000 vehicles ahead of the first Round, the coates Rally Queensland in late March, today’s unveiling marks an important milestone in the history of the Australian Rally Championship in a move that the sports administrators hope will lead to increased manufacturer and spectator interest at all levels of rallying.
